Dr. José Luis Hurtado is a Mexican born-American composer, pianist, and entrepreneur. His music has been played across continents by renown solists and ensembles, and has won prizes in Austria, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, the US and Italy, including Fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, and the American Music Center among others. Hurtado holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, and is currently a Full Professor at the University of New Mexico, where he teaches courses on music theory and composition, and directs the “Music from the Americas Concert Series” and the “New Music New Mexico” Contemporary Ensemble.
