By the time Antonio Vivaldi died (in Vienna in 1741) his music had gone out of style; so one of the most popular and prolific Baroque composers died in poverty.  He had a simple burial at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. And because there was no money to pay for it, there was no music at his service. That’s right, there was no music at Antonio Vivaldi’s funeral service. Ironically… had there been music… it would probably have been performed by the Choristers at St. Stephen’s, which included a young singer who had joined the choir just a year earlier: Franz Joseph Haydn.
