Harwood Art Center Presents:

Poetry Exhibitions

This exhibition is equal parts celebration, preservation and commemoration of a critical moment in time for the literary and spoken word community in New Mexico. It presents a diverse spectrum of artifacts and experiences, honoring the history between the spoken word community and Harwood.

The Birds & the Bees

Featuring the artwork of Adam Bustamante who has accumulated a variety of mark-making approaches. This includes everything from graffiti and caricature to calligraphy and pure academic realism. All of these techniques have now been put in one place with the only intended result being a unique technical and conceptual expression of himself.

Gerald Peters Contemporary Presents:

Stories Retold:  New American Perspectives

A presentation of seven contemporary artists weaving together narratives about American history and everyday life. Nicholas Herrera:  El Rito Santero

Master Santero, Nicholas Herrera started carving wood at the age of 12. His family settled northern New Mexico 6 generations ago. He mixes car parts, paint, and wood to create art in Northern New Mexico.

Student Art Exhibition

This exhibition features work created by student artists and is inspired by the power of community and how we nourish one another, as well as the important role food plays in collective care and support. The moment you stop eating processed food is the moment your life begins.

Pie Projects Contemporary Art has:

John Connell + Eugene Newmann

This exhibition features paintings, works on paper, and bronze sculptures by two legendary artists whose decades long friendship span into a remarkable working collaboration that ended only by Connell’s death in 2009.

Turner Carroll Gallery has:

Reflection

Featuring the artwork of Jeanette Pasin Sloan. Her kitchen studio inspired detailed paintings of everyday objects, including her chrome toaster, which offered new insights into reflections and shapes.

Gallery One in City Hall has:

tether

Featuring the artwork of Eliot Anderberg, Claudia Hermano, & Emily Wright. It explores the intersections of gender, body, and identity through quilts, textiles, photography, and ceramics. The artists share a deep commitment to their communities and to the use of art as a tool for activism and affirmation. 

tether is on display at Gallery One in City Hall in downtown Albuquerque. There will be artists’ talks on Thursday, June 12th,  5:30pm and a quilting bee led by Anderberg on Saturday, June 14th, 1 to 4pm. The exhibition will be on view through Friday, June 20th.

A presentation of photographs by Elizabeth Chiles. The exhibition explores concepts of time, perception, and eco-spirituality.

Zane Bennett Contemporary Art has:

Summer Winter

An exhibition of handwoven garments by Margaret Roach Wheeler and fiber artworks by Mahota Textiles, the first tribally owned textile company in the U.S. The exhibition presents sixteen garments inspired by Indigenous symbology and textile traditions from the southwest to the northeast alongside functional textiles that honor history’s unnamed weavers.

National Hispanic Cultural Center has:

Rendered Presence:  Artistas de Nuevo Mexico 

The exhibition explores artworks by 13 artists, living and working throughout New Mexico including painters, photographers, artists working with textiles and other soft sculpture forms. Each artists explores identify and the self, art history, and the expanse of Hispanic, Chicano, & Latino contemporary art.

The Museum of International Folk Art has:

Between the Lines

An exhibition that aims to humanize the incarcerated by showcasing 200 pieces of artwork, multimedia pieces, and community events. The show consists of works from the museum’s collection as well as from the Penitentiary of New Mexico Inmate Craftsmanship & Trades Fair, a local prisoner’s rights organization.

Between the Lines is on view through Tuesday, September 2nd at Museum of International Folk Art.

INgqikithi Yokuphica/Weavings Meanings:  Telephone Wire Art from South Africa

An exhibition of a South African tradition that spans nearly 100 years. A large part of the exhibit features Zulu artwork and many of the artists have shown their work at the International Folk Art Market.

Hagege is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles renowned for his captivating portrayals of the American Southwest. Trained at a Southern California Academy where he honed his skills with live models, his work is grounded in classical technique.
